Have a question? We have answers!
Whether you are new to making your own wine or have been at it for a while, here are some questions that you might have. We are happy to answer, so if you have a question about something else, send us an email or come by and talk to us!
- How does this wine taste compared to what I can buy already bottled?
The wine you make comes from grape juice concentrates sourced from the world’s best wine-growing regions. We feature VineCo wines, a premium winemaking kit supplier. When you make your own wine, you are saving the cost of bottling and marketing the wine, two costly items that doesn’t make the wine taste better! By doing this work yourself, you get to drink a premium wine for much less.
- Do I have to bring my own bottles?
No – You can bring your own bottles or you can purchase ‘glass’ from us.
- What do I need to bring with me when I come to bottle the wine?
Everything that you need is available from The Wine Making Place! However, if you are re-using wine bottles, be sure to bring them. You might already have a sturdy carrier for wine (we have those too!), which will be helpful as you transport from the store to your vehicle and then to your home.
- How do I know that your equipment is sterile?
We sterilize the equipment that you are going to use right before you use it, when you are standing there to watch. We know how important it is that everything is clean before you start, and we want you to know that what you are using is clean.
- How do the bottles get washed?
If you are reusing bottles, you should give them a rinse after you finish the contents and store them in a cool, dry place, preferably upside-down, until you are ready to use them. When you bring them into our location, you will get to use a very cool bottle washer to sterilze the bottles just before filling.
- Where do I get wine labels?
You can make your own or purchase them from us (this needs to be done in advance, so let us know). If your bottles have labels on them, be sure to remove the labels before you come in, as the bottle washing process here will not do that. Here’s some great information about how to remove labels – https://www.knowwines.com/blog/2019/8/9/how-to-remove-labels-from-wine-bottles
- Can I store my wine at your location?
According to the Ontario liquor laws, we are unable to provide storage for bottled wine.
- Do I need an appointment?
No appointment is needed to start the wine-making process, as it only takes a few minutes. However, you will need an appointment when it is time to bottle your wine.
- What do I need to know after the wine is bottled?
If you have a partial bottle, it should be consumed right away. Your other bottles of wine should stay upright for five days and then laid down on its side to keep the cork moist, which prevents air from entering the bottle. The ideal storage temperature for wine is between 16 C – 20 C (60 F – 65 F). The less you move it, the better, so be sure to place it where you want it to age. Fruity wines are meant to be consumed right away while premium wines should be left to age for three to six months before consuming.
- What happens if I hate the wine that I make?
We will gladly replace your wine if you are not 100% satisfied.
- Do you offer wedding and special events wine?
Yes, we do. Please contact us to help you with your special day, whether it is a wedding, a holiday party or any other type of special event. We will help you make the perfect wine to celebrate your special occasion.
